Professor Derek Abbott (at University of Adelaide; he's been mentioned previously in this thread) has announced that he has identified the Somerton Man, using genetic genealogy!  Although Abbott's conclusion has yet to be confirmed by legal authorities, he has identified the Somerton Man as Carl "Charles" Webb, an electrical engineer and instrument-maker who was born in Melbourne in 1905 and liked betting on horses.  He is not the father of Robin Thomson.

Interestingly, Abbott didn't use any DNA extracted from the exhumed remains.  Instead, he used DNA extracted from some of the man's hairs stuck in his plaster "death mask".
