The refutation of only one thing that destroys the theory of a quarrel!

Hello Jean-Daniel,

--- Quote from: Jean Daniel Reuss on June 04, 2022, 04:16:59 PM ---There were probably quarrels, sharp verbal oppositions...etc. But that is not unusual in this kind of expedition. And I think that you are going down the wrong path of research when you attribute too much importance to the word quarrel, the exact meaning of which is unclear.
--- End quote ---

It is very clear, "quarrel" means "quarrel". And the diaries depicted quarrels: "they had a long argument", "the guys were outraged", etc.

--- Quote from: Jean Daniel Reuss on June 04, 2022, 04:16:59 PM ---Zolotaryov, Doroshenko, Dyatlov seem to feel some resentment, or are they just tired?
--- End quote ---

Probably both exhaustion and resentment.

--- Quote from: Jean Daniel Reuss on June 04, 2022, 04:16:59 PM ---The route planned for this winter hike with poor equipment was not very difficult, but it still required constant attention. An unforeseen complication (broken ski, lost useful accessory, frozen foot....etc) could lead to failure, i.e. at least a pitiful premature return.

In the event of a real danger arising unexpectedly, in this somewhat impressive wilderness atmosphere, internal dissension immediately takes a back seat.

Each member of the group feels that in order to win or survive it is better to postpone the arguments for the time being, so that they can regroup and fight together most effectively.

This group behaviour is usually seen on all ships isolated on the open sea. The crew, sometimes disunited in good weather, comes together and cooperates without problems when the storm arrives.
--- End quote ---

And sometimes, unexpected difficulty increases the division and reveals the hidden conflicts...

--- Quote from: Jean Daniel Reuss on June 04, 2022, 04:16:59 PM ---Indeed the sentence :
After all, Kolevatov is with us.is enigmatic.

Nothing in what we know of the tragic aftermath suggests a clue to suspect Kolevatov of being a particular cause of conflict.
--- End quote ---

Not so enigmatic: Kolevatov was a good debater and is said to be the winner in the debate about kisses when they all wanted to prove their particular point. He defeated them all:

"everyone wanted to speak out, eventually trying to out-shout each other and prove their own opinion. Sasha Kolevatov was the best in our debates" (Dubinia's diary)

--- Quote from: Jean Daniel Reuss on June 04, 2022, 04:16:59 PM ---Zolotaryov and Tibo: what do these 2 pictures inspire you?

--- End quote ---

Nothing. The hypothesis of a political commissar embeded with the group seems reasonable to me. But we also have to really assess what were Vishay and the moutains, and it seems to me like a prisoner camp without guards... a genuine no man's land between order and anarchy.

--- Quote from: Jean Daniel Reuss on June 04, 2022, 04:16:59 PM ---It was not a supernatural or magical premonition that troubled Dubinina but a keen intuition that the conflicts, which we can only guess at, with some of the hostile people of Vizhay, could lead to a dramatic and terrifying outcome.

After leaving Vizhay on 26 January, only the three most experienced and politically mature hikers (Zolotaryov, Kolevatov, Tibo) did not completely disregard Dubinina's worrying intuition. The other five found this concern ridiculous and stupid and perhaps even openly laughed.
--- End quote ---

The only one showing abilities of refined understanding of the events was Yudin. And if there was some very poetic testimonies of a kind of premonition, it was in :

"There is slogan for our campaign, "In a country of mysterious signs." If we knew these letters, it would be possible, without any doubt, to go down the path, confident that it would lead us to the right place." (Unknown diary, Jan. 30)

They couldn't read the signs and ended in the wrong place. And in the mention of "Othello" in Slobodin's diary. The lyrics of the song state :

"Othello went into a terrible rage -
Killed everyone who was in the area,
And in the end he stabbed himself..."

Can't we consider this as a premonition ? Slobodin only wrote the first lines of the song, he didn't follow through, this a kind of writing we can also find in Yudin's diary when he crossed out some sentence and didn't end some sentence... It is an incomplete material but the missing part is meaningful, as meaningful as are the crossed out words:

"Until 1953, they threw in jail everybody that they could catch, innocent, then they figured it out and cleaned up, everybody was given rushed amnesty"...

We could even say that the missing or crossed out is missing because of it excess of meaning... Just like Dubinina's writings are missing in her diary after the sad evening of January 30... we do know the meaning of these blank pages. And anyway, Slobodin wrote the word:

 "Othello",

and it is largely enough if we remember all other testimonies of jealousy, desire, love, temptation, frustration, etc. given in the letters and diaries.

Slobodin began to write in his diary the lyrics of a song which ends with :

"Othello went into a terrible rage -
Killed everyone who was in the area,
And in the end he stabbed himself..."

and as we know, they were all killed in the area a few days later. And they all have heard the song:

"The boys started copying some songs. One man sang beautifully. We heard a number of illegal prison songs (Article 58 counter-revolutionary crimes)." (Dorochenko in group's diary, jan. 27, written about district 41).
