Does anyone have any idea if there is a record of the Blinov groups trip? It would be really interesting to see what they reported for the events of the trip on Jan 25 bus trip

Anyone feeing kind enough to translate any of it for us English speakers?  By the way, a popular online language site has the option to learn Russian, so I will be having a go.  Bad news: It's amongst the hardest languages for English speakers  to learn.  Good news:  Your brain is capable of learning 2 languages at once.  I am thinking it will take a while  grin1

This is a good and valid point. What were the reasons for the frostbite in Blinov's group. How did some suffer injuries that were serious and others were fit to join the search.

What has a good knowledge of Russian got to do with it? Facts are facts? What are Blinov's memories.?

They would have diaries too as tenne has mentioned. It could give clues to weather etc.

This is a good and valid point. What were the reasons for the frostbite in Blinov's group. How did some suffer injuries that were serious and others were fit to join the search.

Where did you get that there were frostbite in Blinov's group? Almost the entire Blinov group took part in the search. Only there were no girls.
So on the search in general, only guys volunteered.
In nature, there is the text of Blinov's diary, which he kept in search. Apparently tenne leads you into a dead end with this diary.
The search is not Blinov's campaign.

And the supposed Feb 1 blizzard and strongest winds in a decade

I went to that website? forum in russian and the russian to english translator works well on it

https://taina.li/forum/index.php?topic=174.msg306965#msg306965

this is a link to more about the trip its self

"The circumstances were such that we left Sverdlovsk on the same day with them, that is, up to Vizhai our destinies were united. We left Sverdlovsk on January 23, traveled in different cars, on the afternoon we were in Serov, where we had to transfer to another train. (he came in the evening) and we slept until Ivdel. At 10 p.m. or later we arrived in Ivdel. We spent the night at the station. In the morning we left for the city with the first bus. They hired a bus and went to Vijay. In Ivdel, they did not go anywhere except for the post office, where they put marks. At 2 o'clock we arrived in Vizhai. It was January 25th Sunday. On this day in Vizhai there was a Komsomol meeting from all lag points. When we arrived it was just coming to an end. After the meeting, Komsomol members were taken to the camps. One of the cars was going to the 105th section, just on our way. We took a picture as a souvenir to say goodbye to the Dyatlovtsy, hurriedly loaded into the car and at thedrove to the 105th precinct. From there, we start our itinerary tomorrow. We had to walk about 220 kilometers. They were supposed to return to Sverdlovsk on February 9-10. Here in Vizhai we saw for the last time the group of Igor Dyatlov (With the exception of Yudin)."

end quote

so his talking about the bus trip doesn't include stopping for an hour and walking and rolling in the snow (one diary) stopping for an hour and walking and helping a car out of a ditch (another diary version) or some of the guys getting an invitation to visit a power plant and missing the bus and running after it and the only way they were able to catch the bus is someone stopped it so that is still a mystery to me

I'm pretty sure frostbites were mentioned in Teddy's book. Along with the fact that there were also female volunteers for the search (at least for one of the later groups) but they were refused. I can't remember what reason was given or if there was one mentioned. I can however imagine they didn't want a mixed group or they suspected the bodies if found would look too bad to show them to female students...

I'm sure it mentions the Blinov's group suffered cold injuries ( if not one of the other search groups that were doing tourist activities) in the dyatlovpass resources. I just need to find it again.

Sir Ziljoe, a girl from Shumkov's group got frostbite. This is known from the memoirs of a participant - Vladimirov.

In Blinov's memoirs, there is a speech about frostbite, but they relate to the 1958 campaign of the year. This is a different trip. That is why I said that memoirs should be read with good Russian. Because it's a transcript from the audio tapes. This is a lively speech in a lively dialogue between old friends who constantly stray into memories of campaigns from other years.

Everything about the details of Blinov's 1959 campaign of the year - I strengthened. As are links.

ATMANAKI WITNESS TESTIMONY

It should be noted that with few exceptions, the trek preceded along this scheme. In the evening in Vizhay from conversations with local residents we learned that two groups went north in front of us (Dyatlov group and a group from Rostov) and the other day the group of the pedagogical institute of Sverdlovsk returned, and in it there were several people who received frostbite on arms and legs.

The group that went on the route consisted of:

Atmanaki Georgiy - city of Pervouralsk,
Borisov Boris - Mining Institute,
Goryachko Oleg - Mining Institute,
Granin Victor - city of Giri,
Karelin Vladislav - Research Institute,
Serdityh Evgeniy - Pedagogical Institute,
Skutin Vladimir - Pedagogical Institute,
Shavkunov Vladimir - Pedagogical Institute.
On the 9th of February in the morning we went to the village of 83rd district, from where it continued along Toshemka river. Two days later the trail approached the mouth of Lohan river where we pitched the base camp and

back

next day leaving in the camp Shavkunov and Granin, who complained that did not feel well, went to the ascent Mount Chistop. The weather was unfavorable, it was snowing, at times there was no visibility.

They also talk about the rings etc seen in the sky at twilight, which seem to fit with the description of a rocket launch. This would have been after the 2nd of February 59.

https://pandia.ru/text/77/410/84677.php

This is about the Shumkov group. Here's the story, in case you haven't read it. You will be very interested.
https://pandia.ru/text/77/410/84677.php

Those who went on campaigns at the same time as the Dyatlov group, even the Fomenko group (those same Rostovites - adventurers) - did not get cold feet. In Shumkov's group, one of the girls fell through the ice with her foot when they were walking along Lozva. That is why frostbite happened.

I too would be interested to see other Soviet hiking diaries, and not just the Blinovs, to establish if the catalogue of errors, bickerings, sulks, refusals, poor performance and the leader losing his bearings were at all typical or specific only to the Dyatlovs.

Groups sometimes fell out, Mikhail Sharavin related how a group split into two in 1960 and half of them subsequently died in a water rafting accident. But not knowing what day, month or year it is, repeatedly so, or your own birthday (unless it's your Saints Day - while strangely not ther other Aleksander's, Semyon, who was first diary referenced as another Aleksander)? To be remiss enough to set fire to someone's coat and gloves? To sleep in? To be completely undisciplined, not applying yourself to any task? To take your group up the wrong pass and then suggest in a final diary entry that you'd soon be 'hundreds of kilometres from human settlements' when you'd never be more than fifty clicks from where you started.

If I'd never heard of the DPI and was shown the diaries and told they all died of hypothermia my honest reaction would be "I'm not surprised, they should never have been out there if this is what they were like".
My DPI approach - logic, probability and reason.

Cassette 23
There is a conversation about Vasya Budrin, he studied at the radio faculty, then about the life of Y. Blinov in the "forty"
12:10 Zinoviev talks about L. Dubinina's feelings for someone - they say, in her diaries she has some sadness, and then Blinov says - or rather, suggests that she had these feelings either for him or for Slava Krotov, who was a very good guy - a couple of women's voices also talk about it.
B She loved my dog... But we got together - Igor Dyatlov, Zina, Yurka ... hence, Yura Yudin - the group was like that, well, the core was. Then I joined... someone came, someone left - well, as usual they gather. Well, at the last moment already, in the month of December, I was sagitated by phystechs and radiotechs with them to go on a hike. I'm like, "Guys, I'm already here... is going to go... [a few words are incomprehensible, but judging by the context, Blinov says that he already planned to go on a hike with Dyatlov] Well, let's go, but only then we will go to the same lands..." Well, I chose the route, about the same as Dyatlov. Only they went north from Vizhai, and we went west...
[Then there is a repetition of the description of how they were thrown from Vizhai, and Blinov once again repeats that they did not see anything, because they were at a distance of 80 km from the place where the Woodpeckers were, and how it snowed for a whole week, and how muscovites caught up with them near the White Stone, and about porridge, and about Olva who slept near the tent, and about the broken thermometer, and about the temperature at night -42.

B Well that's still good. And we spent the night once on the White Stone too... We burned the fire in the evening, the porridge was cooked, I think buckwheat porridge with stew, aluminum bowls - remember, they went with them ... You take it in your hands, your hands freeze... and you can't eat porridge yet, and your hands are already freezing. And the thermometer was broken. So, the fire is burning, the fog is standing. And I had a dog, Olva. She lay on the side, I always lay on the edge... In the middle we put three girls and boys, and we, who are bigger and more enduring, slept on the edge. So you prop up the side of the tent, and Olva was lying next to me. Outdoors... I'm in the tent and she'll lie next to me. She found me, and under the side. In the morning we go out - she runs... time nine, tenth - there is none. And then the Muscovite guys caught up with us at lunchtime. We say - we've gotten hot, we're going... the sun is shining, it's hot..."Do you have a thermometer? How much temperature?" 23 degrees minus. And at night it was minus 48. And we were higher, probably somewhere under 50. The night was cold. Only the stove was heated all night. I'm still about the stove, the stove was burning all the time.

Can you describe each of the teams you went with?
B I didn't know them well... Knew??? [surname and name of the girl - inaudible] - we studied with her in the same group, Sasha Kolevatova, Krotova. With the rest - cap acquaintance. I was asked through Slavka [apparently Krotov] to lead the group, because others did not have the right to lead the march of the 3rd category. Devyatov, Eroshev, Strelnikov, Sinitsyn, Avdeev were a year older, and all studied in the same group. There were 10 of us and I didn't know them well. Everything was fine on the hike, no problems. I especially liked Eroshev. He was lively, cheerful, optimistic...
He's on the accordion...
B Yes there was no accordion! I don't remember Slavka well - we didn't sing much. For some reason, the group was not a singer. And the girls didn't sing very much.
Z The players were - Sinitsyn was out on the piano through a towel could play...
B What a play - 8 days went by, and 8 days of snow wet us! Every evening we stopped, made a fire, dried...
Z And you remember such an episode - they took a child from the Mansi, Sinitsyn and Tomilov ...
B We walked, and went out to the Mansi hut. We came to talk - how the road is, where to go, etc. Comes out mansenok - year 3 to him. One of the girls took out emulous sugar. He took a piece, and back to the dugout. From the dugout once - another climbs out, then another - there is a whole crowd of them. And so he took the little one in his arms. There were some of them there - the dugout is small, with this room. They lived there in the winter - they hunted elk, harvested meat. The whole family and leave - and the men were there, and the women ...
Do they take the yurt with them?
B It was a dugout. When they live in the forests, we haven't seen yurts anywhere... All Mansi live in houses.
Do they have districts divided among themselves?
B Yes, everyone has their own territory, there are huts there, they live in huts. They mastered Russian technology - they built chopped huts... maybe the Russians learned from them... We also need to find out who learned this business from whom. I mean, they were normal craftsmen. Then, they came from Europe here, to the Urals... Mansi are Hungarians... These are not legends... They came with the Hungarians there, and then some tribe went north. some went to Europe, and some came here. Their languages are common, the culture is in some part common. Hungarians - they are not such advanced Europeans... more or less backward... And so they remained fishermen and hunters. They didn't even plant anything, only now they started breeding cows... We fished, berries were picked...
Was it a family?
B Yes, that's the family we met.
Z It's in what place?
B It's from Vision... When they began to approach the Ural Range from Vizhai, then on the approaches to the ridge ... we haven't gone to the mountain yet..
There's still a Chistop somewhere...
B No, Chistop is left behind... in the northeast.. We didn't pass Chistop. Dyatlovtsy also passed Chistop, they somehow bypassed it..
Z No, he's on the road..
B He's on the road, left left. They went up for him to the north, higher, and bypassed him. No one went to Chistop... I wasn't on it either. We immediately went to Martai, and came to the White Stone, and then to the Denezhkin Stone. When we came to the White Stone, then the weather settled... The anticyclone came, the frost was established...
Are these numbers approximately?
B It was early February already.
My DPI approach - logic, probability and reason.

As long as we understand similarity is not identity. If it looks like a horse and runs like a horse,,its a horse ( unless its a zebra)
