If you assume that the flashlights were used in conjunction, you may be wrong.

If you subscribe to the idea they were used at the same time for the same purpose, that is one possibility.

If you subscribe to the idea that the flashlight on or near the tent was not used at all in the abandonment and return to the tent, that is another possibility.
