"14 Gennady Grigoriev visiting Kurikov in Suevat-Paul, 1958
Grigoriev with Kurikov, 1958
On March 14 Grigoriev, who went on the search as part of a group of nine, discovered an old reindeer skin in the snow near a cedar tree. To his surprise, he was left to dig it out on his own, as the students would not help him, and it was his opinion that the students were searching half-heartedly."
Who would leave a reindeer skin at the cedar? You might think Mansi, I think not. They are not going to be loose with their property. Rescue/ recovery people? No, for the same reason. The DP9? No, for the same reason.
The entry speaks of the retrieval of an old skin, not a rotted skin, not currently connected to a reindeer but found in the vicinity of the cedar. Was this an indication of something fallen from a mid tree hunting blind? I doubt it. After all they didn't call it dead mountain because there was game there. Was the mat of branches really laid by the R4 group, or did they just pad it out because the reindeer cushion blew off?
Out there in the dead of winter, and for no good reason, a perfectly good reindeer skin gets dropped and lost under snow. Somebody had some 'splaining to do when they got hone. Just one more thing about this story that makes no sense.

Nothing unusual about that. The Mansi hunted in that area.

Then got blind staggering drunk took off their reindeer cloak and howled at the moon. Why didn't I think of that?
