Here's more detail on the Chinese one and the orange toxic fuel. I believe it's carcinogenic. The video is well explained. To add to the 1950/60s cold war theme. Apparently a "Thor booster " fell on Cuba and killed a cow in 1960.

This next video is new to me. It happened in Canada in 1977. A soviet radioactive satalite broke up over a huge part of Canada. Radiative parts the size of a peppercorns had to be collected. It was over four months , in winter -40 , helicopters were used. Many of the searcher's are said to have got cancer from the incident. Hand held radioactive detectors were used too.

It's you that started it Glennm! You just get me searching. I know zero about nitric acid and radioactive things, or rocket boosters for that matter. However all food for thought.

Some things to note, boosters at least , don't seem to break up or make craters in the ground. I've always envisioned an explosion, that might not be the case. In the video it shows them os slight squashed tubes.

With the searching I found people sticking there fingers in nitric acid( diluted) and the skin turning orange!

There may be some merit in a nitric gas cloud. I just don't know enough about it. However, there seems to be a strong connection with rockets and the DP9. Soviet intelligence would be all over the case for sure.

I would add that what we observe in the videos of rocket failures is quantitatively different from a detonation inducing a vaccuum which has surfaced on the forum as a topic. A nuclear blast produces a temporary vaccuum, and a mushroom cloud. That possibility I think is a bridge too far in our investigtions.
