I was following another thread where it was speculated that geologists were detonating charges in treetops to produce ground tremors. The tremors were supposed to aid in the detection of mineral deposits. Now since I am no geologist, I do not know if this was actually done. I certainly question the wisdom of blowing up trees in this way. I wonder who is going to be around to measure it anyway. I questiion whether snow on the ground dampens any blast wave.  Too, I subscribe to the theory their final camp was on the bare slope of 1079 and nowhere near the forest. I believe it would be insane to leave the tent and run toward a blast zone. I could go on...

The thing that got me was that it was claimed that this process was documented on page 227 of the book 1079. I dutifully opened my digital copy in the Kindle app on my Android tablet. Would you believe this? The book has no page 227! It has 226 and 228. No lie!

Here is a link where you can read more about the process than I could ever include in the book.

That is if you are really interested in the information and not why is page 227 missing.
Kindle, including the paging, is produced by KDP platform.

I myself do not have Kindle, but isn't the content of a book fluent depending on your screen/device, font size etc. I guess there is a way to point to a page in a Kindle but I don't even know what is suppose to be on p. 227. The pagination is different on paperback and hardcover too. I don't even have a book in my hands to open and see what is on page 227 because of Amazon screw up - see screenshot below

I have bigger problems with Amazon. I ordered authors copies for signing and they were damaged and returned. I placed a new order right away and they still haven't printed them yet.

Teddy, thanks for the link. I will follow it. You rightly point out that different media will result in different pagination. For Kindle to drop an entire page number is just bad. At least, your reply tells me that I have not been pranked. I trust Amazon will come through in the end for you, though your visit here in the States will eventually be finished.

Best wishes. I look forward to getting a better insight on the seismic survey methodology and what would motivate geologists to engage in a large scale obfuscation of the last days of the tourist's lives.

About 10-15 years ago, I found myself in a situation several times when the Internet, after my order, reported that it was impossible to fulfill the order because the book was defective. Since this happened with books published several years ago, I suspect that the store puts the book on display until a situation arises where the book's print run is over and it is not in stock.

When I purchased books as an intermediary, there was a situation where I could get the book from the publisher, but its price was already increased (not the price on the price list). It is also possible that Teodora ordered 10 books, but there were only 3-5 books in stock.

In general, this is a typical situation for Russia. I don't know about the USA.
It is also possible that the books got wet during transportation or were caught in a natural disaster.
