I assume that Slobodin's second shoe was found in the tent, which is a confirmed fact. Therefore, it is impossible for him to voluntarily leave the tent and go to the cedar with one shoe. Slobodin with one shoe is another key factor in the whole case. The entire slope and the cedar were victims of that threat.

Only nature stopped that threat by burying it under a 4 m layer of snow.
What do you suggest this threat was, specifically?

As I already wrote, it's nothing mysterious, the threat was between them.

Krivonischenko's camera vs Zolotaryov's camera

Krivonischenko's last photo taken in an emergency and several damaged photographs by Zolotaryov actually follow each other.

You took a picture of me, then I'll take a picture of you (not only you).

All is revealed in "The Cedars". Wake up people, believe me we are not alone. Sightings of flying glowing balls (seen one myself) or Airforce pilots and their description of vehicles captured on film is no joke.

Cross-cut saw 1   v   2 Knives  =  Wood 0

GlennMs  " Inventory List "  Item 7.  Spare underpants 1+1 =2 .  Now there were 7 guys and I know you can always turn them inside out and  swap with somebody else but I think someone drawing up the inventory didnt do their homework right.

Sometimes Common sense isnt all that Common.

A better question would be, why and there were 9 of them present did they not build a fire at the top of the den they made. This den was supposed to be only 20mtrs away 70ft. They had a 2 man cross-cut saw they could have used, unless they left it at the Labaz or tent. My perception would be, they left it at the Labaz, it was in its own case and although the blades are not very heavy the case it was in could have been.   ------------- Just think having and using this tool could have saved their lives. ----------------------.
( Ziljoe ) These saws come in unimaginable lengths even long enough to cut your Sequoya trees in DC State.
The one carried by the Dyatlov team would be around 30" long and was disassembled in its case.I have been trawling photos but havent found it yet. I thought it may have been around the stay in Ivdel that I saw one stowed and on top of someones backpack. Argggghhhh more photos.

For me, the presence of a saw or axes in the forest suggests there was both a plan and time to plan at camp. The use of a Flemish knife to bushwhack near the cedar suggests using what was already at, or in hand when leaving the camp. In the absence of serious woodcutting tools, the idea that a team of two or more would travel a mile round trip in order to climb a tree and stomp down on branches seems amateurish and foolhardy. A better solution would be to bring sufficient wood from the day previous day's camp after a diligent search and some backtracking. I do not think the unknown compelling force was related to the lack of firewood. I do feel the need for firewood and a fire (of course) was imperative, once their tent was abandoned.

We don't know how big the saw was plus we don't if they went to the ceder to actually get wood .

They obviously used the wood to start a fire at the ceder  . I believe the den was 50 meters away from the ceder , the ravine 4 were found 6 meters away from the den flooring . The fact that there is no fire at the den would suggest that either the fire was started after the den was made or they couldn't get a fire started at the den. ( No more wood?)

There are cross-cuts that are huge like the one Dubinina is shown using but they go right down in size to about 30" which is about the size the hikers took with them, I'm fairly sure I saw a pic of Igor with one on the top of his backpack :- cant find it at the moment, it was part of their inventory.

Wood expedition theory Etc.
Many people are confused as to WHY the stove wasnt used on the fateful night/day.
Could have been for the following reasons.
1. Igor didnt want to. I think it was a condition that the group needed to have a "cold night" to obtain their Grade III. 2. They didnt have the fuel, they only brought one log with them, the so called reason Tibo and Zolo were going to be sent for more. (Although the stove was supposed to have been found by the rescuers in its packing case).   3. If Igor had sent the boys for wood then why didnt he erect the stove for when they returned with wood.(Not forgetting it was 1.5klm =  3hrs + 1 hr for collecting wood approx 4 hrs ??? ). 4. Could he have erected the stove. If for any reason Igor had lost the asbestos tape or the pipe-clamp it would have made no sense in erecting it as it wouldnt have worked correctly, ie filling the tent with deadly gases. ( I assume there was no spare tape or clamps ). Shown below is a method of assembling the stove, obviously using a pipe clamp would be the preferred method to keep the pipe rigid .The wires at the back absorbing any movement.

There is an opinion without evidence that instead of spending an hour or more setting up the tent stove, an outdoor cooking fire was made on 1079. Any brought wood was from the day(s) before and largely consumend for the outdoor cooking fire. BTW in the latest post on the 1079 thread, Ziljoe notes a saw was found in the tent. That in itself should be enough to exclude the theory that anyone went to the woods for firewood.

GlennM, Ziljoe only found another statement that says a saw was found as in the manifesto you previously wrote up. It dosnt say it was used, the group  have been using their skis as far as I can see on there own for digging/ shovel use.
Again we have conflicting stories as to if the stove was used as it was found stowed. They only had a log that was brought with them which may not have lasted if used and I think using the stove in this weather would have been extremely dangerous due to the tent movement in the atrocious weather.

Credit where credit due.
Perhaps they didnt see the saw.

It all happened because there was a threat that Krivonischenko captured in the last shot of his camera, and from which he and Doroshenko were hiding on a cedar tree. The threat from the tent continued up the slope to the cedar, but there was no escape from it. It left a trail of destruction on the slope and by the cedar.
It is beyond belief that two persons would climb up a tree to hide from a perceived threat, then proceed to brake off branches and form a 5-meter-high window facing the direction of said threat. This is the most extreme case of hiding in plain sight that I have ever heard of. But you raise a valid concern about leaving without shoes.

Zolotaryov didn't go with his camera for wood or water.

If you're hiding in a tree, you'll break off any branches that come your way so the threat can't get to you.
I dont understand what you are trying to say Zolo was fairly insignificant from hereon in just one of the RAV 4 .His (If any) pictures were ruined by the water. cry2
The second sentence I suppose you mean "a human" threat cant climb a tree to get to you. Well I suppose not but it could always wait at the bottom until you come/fall down. bat1
Another proposal is that this threat by just appearing inside the tent could manifest itself just about anywhere even by your side - up the tree. These objects truly are an inexplicable force , maybe sent by god himself.   bow7

Yes I found this pic of Dubinina using this 2-man saw whilst trawling through the site. Could have been at Ivdel.
The fact that there was a saw also mentioned in the inventory that you posted too at the bottom of the list.
It was also mentioned maybe by the rescuers that the tent floor was well organised and an Ice-axe ans saw were found by the entrance. Credit where credit due.
Perhaps they didnt see the saw.

I believe your picture is from a previous expedition and not the 1959 .

Here is another photo with one of the saws in it . It's in the middle standing vertical next to the tree . At least I think it's a cross saw.

What we know is they took some things of their own and a bunch of equipment from the UPI . This equipment was signed out and was to be signed back in to the stores. A saw was counted out and the saw was found in the tent.

The location of the equipment and items found in the tent maybe not exactly as they were left at the time of the incident because the first searchers did move things.

The stove can be used in bad weather if needed and it can be taken down if needed. The speculation about the log found was that it was a log specifically prepared from the day before , a dry log which they use to get the next fire started . It may have also be getting saved for a morning start , one log cut into kindling would be enough to take the worst chill away from the tent and get dressed and ready for coming day . It may also be useful to thaw the tent a bit to help for packing but I'm not sure about this , it may make things more difficult. I have not hot tented with canvas  below -8c.
