The speculation about whether or not it was the real Zolotaryev on this trip or a secret replacement was interesting. Zolotaryev's step-daughter's comments about his personality were similar to things I have read before: that he was a cold and cruel person. What I read before was something about him abusing and striking his aunt (?). The Zolotaryev on the DP hike did not seem to behave that way, not cruel and cold, but friendly and funny, making friends, teaching the hikers new songs, etc. No one had any complaints about his personality in their diaries.
What do you think, is this all just sensationalism or does it seem there is some truth to it?
