Russians are certainly a hardy breed! How they can stand that crazy cold is a thing of wonder.
The opening scenes of the tent caused me to catch myself thinking, " Here they are in the midst of trees, yet they prefer to make a berm of snow and use ski poles to tension their tent.". I think about the criticism against the DP9 doing something as foolish as setting up their tent on the barren slope of 1079, yet, this group in the midst of any number of support trees, prefers to rig their shelter in a tried and true fashion. Consequently, I do not find it particularly odd that the DP9 employed ski pole rigging on their last camp, and quite likely the previous night's camp too. If it works, don't fix it! It strikes me as far more likely, if not ultimately perilous.
Weather is indifferent to tents, ski poles, trees and all the rest.
