Either they were injured inside the tent or they were injured outside the tent.If they were injured in the tent, they didn't go down the slope. and if they did go down the slope, they didn't get hurt in the tent.

Teddy talks about how conspiracy theory can explain everything, but then we have to decide which facts we believe...

I really like the way Teddy talks, I really like her. She is super intelligent, thinks well. A huge job that she did! Hats off to him!
In fact, you are absolutely right here as well.Or it would be...if it weren't for the metatheory!
Because in metatheory we don't have to decide which facts are false and which facts are real!
We are equally happy with both false and real facts. Because it only matters how much and in what way they contradict each other!

Extremely important information is given at the beginning!!! Teddy says that Ivanov gives the films found in the camera to the searchers in such a way that they call up the film-negative without knowing what is in the pictures!
Would it be nice to know how certain this is? When will you hand over the films?
So there are already 5 found bodies when he can hand over the films!
How can it be imagined that the authority will release such evidence from its hands? In addition, film negatives that can be permanently destroyed if they make a mistake during development!
This is totally absurd! There are no words for that. This couldn't happen! Will the authority hand over evidence to civilians in the investigation of 5 dead? So how? This is impossible!

Let's think this through!

This act is only rational if we assume that the cameras no longer have the original film negatives when the tent is found!
The tent was found earlier. The films in the cameras were developed and censored, then new film negatives were made from the frames approved by the censorship using a phototechnical process and put back into the cameras! Which will later be found together with the tent on February 26.
Ivanov hands over the manipulated film-negatives to the searchers for develop, because this way he can avoid the appearance that the authorities can be accused of disappearing the images! But that's actually what happened. The original negatives are with the authorities, and only the manipulated films are handed over to the searchers! Do you understand?
And this explains why there are also pictures from the tour that are not on any of the inventoried camera films. Because the inventory we know is about manipulated camera films. But somehow some censored images of the original camera films were made public! E.g, the last two pictures of the digging of the tent site!

Yes, I understand. Teddy is intelligent, but her theory is inconsistent with what I said before.

Teddy's theory is the fallen-tree theory. There the tent is in the forest.  The conflict we were talking about can only be interpreted if the tent was on the mountainside and they camped there. That's why I don't understand how Teddy's theory could contradict this?

One of the difficulties with the 1079 book's theory is the involvement of geologists in the disaster. It was they who were principally involved in obfuscating the alleged scene in the forest, transporting and re-erecting the tent and manipulating the bodies. The mention of geologists in the criminal case is conspicuous by its absence. Indeed, far more people point an accusing finger at KGB, vengeful goons, escaped convicts, mad Mansi, LGM and madder Yeti, than geologists!

If anyone was hurt in the tent to a degree we find the R4, they would not have made a 20-30 minute unassisted hike to the forest. The footprints do not lend credence to the idea of anyone being incapacitated and assisted, nor being carried. Anything to the contrary is an opinion, not fact. Then too, there is the uncomfortable realization that nether Zolo, nor Lyuda who had the severest injuries were found off the ground and lying on the branch mat. If the mat came later on, then why would Lyua's leg be wrapped in cloth also found on the mat?

The problem with the meta theory is that we can not get at what we want to know by accepting what is the objective truth and what is the objective lie as equivalencies. That solution is only attractive to conspiracy advocates because it is an unsubstantiated glue to join disparate facts. It also helps them sell books. A natural calamity resulting in progressive impairment which precipitates additional calamity is not nearly as glamorous. The challenge is in the sequential arrangement of the reported events using the minimum amount of speculative glue to bind them together.
We don't have to say everything that comes into our head.

The discussion of metatheory ends here. Unless someone wants to apply the theory in a practical way, as in the Dyatlov case.

Because we know the tent was above the slope,  which contradicts many points

Where was the tent - this is one of the most important questions!  This is probably exactly what the camera film exchange described in post 61 is about. Therefore, the pictures of digging the tent site are missing from the inventoried film negatives. These were censored so that it would not be possible to know where the tent was. When the film negatives were censored, the authorities had not yet decided what the final version would be about the location of the tent. The authorities did not yet know how they would organize the case! It wasn't decided then. And that's why these images couldn't get on the manipulated film negatives.  When it was later decided that the venue would be arranged in such a way that the tent would be on the mountainside, there was no particular point in withholding these pictures from there.  But they were wrong, because by releasing an image that was not useful on the inventoried camera films, they failed themselves

From the point of view of metatheory, all theories can be equally excluded, because the facts representing the interpretive framework are false. All theories that are within the framework will be excluded because they cannot fit into contradictory false facts.  Fallen-tree and slab-avalanche and the rest are the same. When I say I like the way Teddy thinks, I didn't mean to highlight her theory. I love and respect the way her relates to the Gyatlov incident.

I understand your point. So you're saying it's impossible to reconstruct what happened in the Dyatlov Pass because the materials we have are falsified/tainted. In your opinion, why were they counterfeited, and to what extent has the material we have been modified?

This reminds me a bit of Alexandr Bobrikov

Not accurate!
It's impossible for us.
But those who falsified the facts naturally have the ability to explain what really happened.

The metatheory can only prove that the Gyatlov incident could not have happened within the framework of the currently known facts.

But it cannot answer what really happened.

There could have been two conspiracies
One directly concerns the incident itself.
The other concerns the investigation.

I the first one imaginable,
but on the other hand, I consider the second to have happened and partially proven.

I cannot comment on the conspiracy related to the incident itself.

In the case of conspiracy related to the investigation, there had to be complete control not only over the investigation, but even before that, in the manipulation of the scene of the act. By the time the search started, they had finished manipulating the scene. The procedure led by Ivanov was a complete fraud.
The purpose of this conspiracy was to cover up what really happened.

In your opinion, was any institution in the USSR directly responsible for the accident, or only for the falsifications?

Based on what you've observed in the materials we have (Produced by the Dyatlov group during the expedition), the photos or the diaries, do you think they were also falsified? If so, why?

I didn't mention an accident, I didn't say there was an accident. But I think that's likely.

Three possible roles for the members of the Gyatlov group can be imagined. Or a combination of these!

1) Participant (I don't think so, it also offends the memory of the victims)
2) Witness (they saw something they shouldn't have seen)
3) Victims (e.g. something from heaven fell on them)

The question of institutional responsibility is a difficult one. Here in Hungary, the prosecutor's office operates under orders and above orders, and the prosecutors are still committing abuses on orders.
Ivanov was in charge, obviously he had to report to someone about the current developments. All this happened through the prosecutor's hierarchy or party line or through the secret service, I don't know. I can only guess. And I don't even know how official, semi-official, illegal methods these were.

The issue of camera images is very important,

The conspiracy theory would be contradicted by the fact that the conspirators do not know what is in the photos in the cameras, because the cameras will be found in the tent on February 26 and the film-negative will be called up afterwards.  There is therefore a chronological problem here.  Whatever they did before February 26 could be the opposite of something that would appear in one of the camera photos. For example, there could be a photo in the cameras that the tent was set up at the cedar. So if the tent is moved from the cedar to the mountainside during the manipulation of the location, this photo would bring them down!

So an important component of the conspiracy theory version is that the tent and the cameras in it had to be found earlier. The film-negative in the cameras had to be developed and another film censored and manipulated into the cameras had to be put back, on which there are no more photos that could be dangerous.

Bongyi, your theory about a secret operation pre-finding the tent, developing the film reels, censoring them, and then phototechnically re-manufacturing and re-inserting fake negatives into the Zorki cameras is a total physical and logistical dead end up to the point of impossible.

You are treating a messy 1959 wilderness situation like a winter accident where every unexpected human habit must be an engineered state deception.

There is zero physical evidence of the photographs being edited, staged, or manipulated. To physically alter or duplicate a 1950s 35mm film strip without leaving massive, obvious footprints on the wet celluloid—which the student camera and chemistry geeks would have spotted instantly in their darkrooms—is technically impossible.

You cannot copy or project an old negative onto a new piece of film without an extreme loss in quality. The grain multiplies, the shadows bloom into solid black, and it creates a highly noticeable 'photocopy of a photocopy' distortion. We have some of the original negatives in the archive .

Furthermore, it has zero actual benefit to aid an intentional cover-up. It would have actively created more holes, double exposures, and direct evidence of tampering rather than hiding a secret.

If a state apparatus truly wanted to suppress photographic evidence or hide a crime scene, the easiest, standard bureaucratic move would be to pull the backs off the cameras in broad daylight to flash-fry the film entirely white, or simply destroy the reels and claim the gear was lost in the snow. They would not meticulously re-manufacture a fake reel to hand back to the public. Let that sink in...

Even if it was a murder or a coverup , why would you spend time adding to a narrative that would leave the same conclusion as we already have without any photos?.

Look at the actual human timeline of those film reels. The student searchers were distraught peers, not forensic investigators. When they found the tent on February 26th, a student volunteer casually pocketed Igor Dyatlov’s camera and took the film home to develop it privately in his own darkroom just to find out where his friends went. Later, Prosecutor Ivanov gave the remaining undeveloped rolls directly to civilian students (like Georgiy Bienko) to process unsupervised in their own home bathrooms and apartments.

One of those very rolls (Krivonischenko's camera I think) explicitly contains frames from a completely different, earlier winter trip that happened long before the Dyatlov trek even began. A government censorship squad staging a fake crime scene wouldn’t spend days using advanced darkroom technology to forge a dead student's old personal holiday photos onto the front of a fake evidence reel just to trick the search party to which half are allegedly already involved in.

The theory of manipulated photos and a cover-up can exist entirely in its own right; it does not need an abstract metatheory formula to prove or disprove any other narrative. This is why your push to argue that because we cannot build a 100% flawless story, it somehow 'proves' the state is withholding a secret or that the facts are fake, becomes totally nonsensical.

Think of this case instead as a 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzle where we are missing 750 pieces. Some of our remaining 250 pieces form small, tight clusters where we can be precise—like the physical locations of the bodies. But other pieces sit entirely alone. The February 6th date stamped on the folder cover is a great example of an isolated piece. Standing alone, it looks like a glaring contradiction. But it's highly possible the administration simply stamped the file using the date of the very first referenced material available in the regional stack, which happened to be Popov's routine forestry statement about the weather and general tourist movements.

The confusion in the Dyatlov Pass incident isn’t caused by the data we have being 'forged lies'; it is likely caused entirely by the empty spaces left behind by the 750 missing pieces. Real-world wilderness tragedies are inherently chaotic. Normal archival clutter, bureaucratic shortcuts, and simple human habits easily look like an engineered paradox if we don't have the missing context to bridge the picture.

If have or support a theory , by all means push it and discuss it .

@Ziljoe

Copying negatives is possible. In the analog era, movies released to the cinema were also made this way. There is a multi-step change from the original film-negative to film-positive, then from film-positive to film-negative again, then from film-negative to film-positive again. This is a technologically solved procedure.

In the case of Krivonischenko's camera, you are not thinking logically. There is a film negative in the camera. The conspirators do not know what images are on the film negative. The film negative must be developed in a lab to see the images. After they see that there is no image on it that is dangerous for them, they are then forced to produce another film negative with the images and put it back on camera! The fact that it was not only the pictures taken on the tour that were on the film negative has no influence on the procedure. They couldn't know this beforehand.  Not only Krivonischenko, but also others had private pictures not related to the tour on the film negatives.

Metatheory does not deal with the possible narration of events. It only focuses on the contradictions of the facts. I recognized the problem with camera photos and described it here. I didn't want to open another topki for him! But that's not part of metatheory.

The problem of referring to the lack of facts or the small number of facts was explained earlier on my part in post 48

Several of you have assumed that it is not about the false quality of the facts, but about their absence!
Not true!
If the problem with the Gyatlov incident were that only a few facts were available, then the situation would be quite different! Possible theories can be easily fitted to the few facts, since they have to fit at fewer points. Such narratives could be set up more easily. Then we would be faced with the problem that there would be many possible narratives that fit the facts, but we cannot decide which of them corresponds to reality? This is a completely different situation than what we have with the Gyatlov incident. There is not a single possible theory here. That is why there is no question of a lack of facts! We have to talk about the falsity of the facts!

Can you tell me when Ivanov will hand over the film negatives to Georgiy Bienko by date?
This is something of extreme importance, from which many conclusions can be drawn!
The photos in the camera are irreplaceable evidence! They had to find at least 5 bodies here! So the prosecutor leading the investigation hands over irreplaceable evidence to the civilians in 5 fatal cases. In today's terms, Ivanov committed a crime by doing so. If a prosecutor did this now, he would be immediately prosecuted for committing a crime and his career would be over! I don't know what legislation defined the activities of Russian prosecutors in 1959, but I would be quite surprised if they had the opportunity to hand over such evidence!
The transfer of film negatives is not only unacceptable from a forensic point of view, but also absurd! It contradicts natural thinking. Irrational, illogical! And the only way to be rational is to assume that the authorities already have all the images from the cameras and that the civilians are actually being handed the manipulated film negatives. And the reason for this is precisely that the authorities can dismiss all accusations that photographs have been concealed.  But that's exactly what they did!

One question to ask is: why fake the footage? Why spend time and resources running that risk when the cameras could simply have been confiscated by the authorities and never shown to anyone else?

On this basis, we could also take it as a valid suggestion that the Russian authorities could kill anyone who ever utters the Gyatlov case!

Something happened that they want to hide. Instead, they need to be able to present something else. This thing should be believable.

If the cameras are missing, it won't be believable.

I believe the forum is being played. This thread is premised on the idea that the case history is based on lies which can not be distinguished from the truth. Very convenient point of view. Any attempt in the forum to refute this is perceived as a measure of our individual and collective insecurity. That too is convenient.

Make no mistake, peel back the wrapper and this is just a conspiracy theory being promoted by someone who has not even done enough research to advance their own explanation. Finally, when some new conspiracy comes along which ticks enough boxes to make him happy, he will say " I told you, so. I am the greatest detective!"  Of course, we already know that there will still be things unaccounted for.
We don't have to say everything that comes into our head.

Khrushchev's USSR wasn't the same as Stalin's. If that were necessary, it would have been enough to get rid of everyone and hide all the items. But you’re suggesting that because of something that happened, it’s necessary to stage the whole thing. The USSR didn’t do that and never did anything like that. It doesn’t make sense for you to believe in such a complete conspiracy, otherwise you’ll end up in an even bigger and senseless conspiracy like Mihail Butov's. Look, the Russian Federation isn’t killing anyone either, they don’t gain anything from it. Did anyone get killed when Senior Lieutenant Safronov was shot down by mistake while intercepting the U-2 in 1960? When he was rescued by civilians after parachuting down, he was already dead, and the civilians had to sign a secrecy agreement. The peasants who captured the U-2 pilot were decorated. Did any of them get killed for seeing something they weren’t supposed to? And what about the 4 Soviet soldiers from the barge T-36 who were rescued by the American aircraft carrier? That doesn't make sense because things didn't work that way. If it was necessary to cover up the incident, it was enough to seal everyone in closed coffins and claim a contagious disease. Case closed. One of the reasons I don't believe there was interference at the 'crime scene'

Several options, but only one decision.  Whatever the decision, you can always ask why not the other.  Could it have been covered up in another way? Yes or no? We don't know. maybe not. The thing isn't illogical.

But why don't we deal with the problem of Prosecutor Ivanov handing over irreplaceable evidence to civilians in a case where there are already five dead?

That's what Teddy was talking about. @Ziljoe confirmed too! Can we take this as a fact that it happened?

Anyone who wants to rule out a conspiracy must explain how it is possible for Ivanov to hand over the film negatives of the cameras to civilians? While maybe there is a solution to the whole case on camera footage? Ivanov doesn't know what's on the movie negatives! Civilians could have destroyed the negative during the recall!  And then the evidence images will be lost forever!
How can a prosecutor do that?  Irrational! Absurd! It cannot be explained! It can only be explained by conspiracy! But not because everything can be explained by assuming a conspiracy, but because it can only be explained by that.

You keep saying conspiracy theory, conspiracy theory - like a parrot!
But what can you say instead of the conspiracy?  Nothing! You say nothing!
Conspiracy is more than nothing, right?

Bongyi, you're making the mistake of judging a provincial prosecutor's conduct in the USSR in 1959 using police procedure manuals from 2026. Ivanov didn't hand over the films to the students because there was a conspiracy — he gave them over because the students had the labs, the developing tanks, and the technical know-how to process the film quickly while the searches were happening.

Confusing bureaucratic informality and lack of resources with a 'grand state conspiracy' is exactly the mistake GlennM and Ziljoe have been pointing out from the start. Not every procedural error in an old case is proof of a staged hoax.

What we see is an accident that happened in the mountains, and if there was a conspiracy, you would have to prove. the fact that Ivanov gave the photos to the students to reveal, which could be an indication that there was actually no conspiracy. From all the evidence we have so far, we can say that there was no conspiracy

In 1959, did the Russian prosecutor's office have the necessary laboratory to develop photo negatives?

On October 19, 1954, the Prosecutor General's Office of the Soviet Union issued the historically significant instruction that ordered the creation and technical equipment of the forensic service (prosecutor-criminalists). Within this framework, special forensic rooms and photographic laboratories have been set up in the investigative departments of the regional and county procurator's offices to retrieve and process criminal evidence, including photographs and negatives.

Bongyi, citing a 1954 decree on paper doesn't change the operational reality on the ground in the Urals in February 1959.
Having a directive ordering the creation of forensic rooms in regional capitals is very different from having a fully-equipped, functioning photo lab operating at the remote search site near Ivdel during an active emergency rescue mission for 9 missing students.

Furthermore, your own logic contradicts itself: if Ivanov was orchestrating a high-level state cover-up with newly-forged negatives, handing those very negatives over to civilian UPI university students in their home darkrooms—unsupervised civilians who were emotionally invested and actively looking for clues—would be the absolute worst way to maintain a cover-up.
If there was a state conspiracy, the materials would have stayed locked in a vault in Sverdlovsk, not processed in student apartments. You are confusing the practical improvisation of an under-resourced regional investigation with a masterclass in deception.

Bongi. Conspiracy advocates always have them because they do not know the facts. It is really that simple. Weather caused the problem and weather ended it. That is and always has been my point of view, though I have entertained other ideas and found them wanting. On 1079 during those hours, the individuals progressively sustained physical and thermal injuries with  a direct result of lack of mobility. The only problem for several of us in the forum is the sequencing of events particularly in the woods, It is just working out the details.

I want to advise you to take a close look at  both your reliance on Ivanov as well as who on social media supports your point of view. Just like yourself, your supporters have an agenda. If you can not detect a revenge motive, then check again. I want to think you joined the forum with good intentions, but until you broaden your understanding of the incident, I advise moving a bit more slowly. I also caution you against going ad hominum it any replies. Finally, get real with what is in it for you. Is all this leading up to podcasts,,or a monetized YouTube feed, or the next definitive tell all book? All behavior is motivated. It you just want to know the truth, then slow your roll. Sooner or later, we will get there.

You may not realize it, but you might be played without knowing it.

bongyi, it seems you've turned the question from topic 81 into your last stand, and we're pitting your theory against technical and historical reality. We're not blind in the forum; we're using the data we have based on concrete evidence. Therefore, there's no reason for aggressive and defensive rejection or direct confrontations. When you say, "I don't need your advice! I don't need your assessments! I don't need your training!" it's a clear sign of intellectual frustration. When someone resorts to this tone in an academic or investigative forum, it's because they no longer have conceptual arguments to defend their own thesis.
It seems to me that you're inventing a fiction without proof rather than accepting the uncomfortable answer that real investigations from 1959 were imperfect, messy, and full of informal decisions. I already told you about this in answer 85: "if Ivanov was orchestrating a high-level state cover-up with newly-forged negatives, handing those very negatives over to civilian UPI university students in their home darkrooms—unsupervised civilians who were emotionally invested and actively looking for clues—would be the absolute worst way to maintain a cover-up.
If there was a state conspiracy, the materials would have stayed locked in a vault in Sverdlovsk, not processed in student apartments. You are confusing the practical improvisation of an under-resourced regional investigation with a masterclass in deception." there is no reason for us to believe in conspiracy.
