I don't remember reading that anywhere !?!?! Do you have a link? I assumed they would have been used for resources at the tent location.
I asked Igor Pavlov when I first encounter this conundrum. Here is our correspondence about this:

Igor, are the missing pieces of the tent discussed anywhere? What happened to the missing pieces of the tent?

Nobody knows for sure. There are various theories.
I believe Yarovoy most of all, who described in his book how the prosecutor (Tempalov?) personally tore apart the tent (lifted the top along with the snow to get to the things inside).
There is no information where did the pieces go.

Yarovoy:
"A thick layer of wind-compressed snow lay on top of the tent. Only in one spot did the tourists attempt to remove it—was a dark cloth with holes in it through which their belongings could be seen..."Yarovoy implies that the hole in the snow cover of the tent was removed in one place by Dyatlov group?
This means that the snow on top of the tent was accumulated while the group was still inside, is this what he says?
Not sure if tourists are Dyatlov group or could he mean the searchers.
How is it possible no snow to have fallen over the wholes in the canvas of the tent?
This means after the tent has been staged (and covered with compacted snow by the wind), someone (perhaps 2 people) found it, cleared a spot, peed, forgot a flashlight on top of the tent (so maybe it was dark) but didn't leave any fresh footprints? The footprints allegedly left by the dead hikers (to the people that staged the tent) are too many for two people. The could have been on wide skis. But Mansi don't have flashlights. What kind of skis did Pashin and Cheglakov use?

Not sure if tourists are Dyatlov group or could he mean the searchers.I think Yarovoy meant searchers. Otherwise, the lack of snow in this place is difficult (or rather impossible) to explain.
What kind of skis did Pashin and Cheglakov use? There is no such information.

Remember that after Dyatlov group the tent has been ravished by searchers, prosecutors, and that is only the ones we know of from the case files. Who first found the tent is not known. Read:
When was the tent found and why was it kept a secret for two days
